Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for admission into the following degree and diploma programmes which are going to be offered by the Zimbabwe Open University through the distance teaching and open learning mode of instruction in its 10 Regional Centres: Bulawayo, Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Masvingo, Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South and Midlands starting in August 2010.

1.0 FACULTY OF COMMERCE AND LAW
1.1 BACHELOR OF COMMERCE IN ACCOUNTING (4 YEARS)
BACHELOR OF COMMERCE IN BANKING AND FINANCE (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language at Grade C or better and Mathematics at Grade B or better.
Applicants who meet the above requirements but also possess the following, stand a better chance of being selected; One or more ‘A’ Level passes in Accounting, Economics, MOB, Law, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and/or
are studying the final part of CIS, ACCA, CIMA, IAC, a full Diploma in Accountancy or Higher National Diploma in Accountancy.
- BACHELOR OF COMMERCE HUMAN RESOURCE, INDUSTRIAL & LABOUR RELATIONS MANAGEMENT (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics at Grade C or better;
Applicants who meet the above requirements but also possess the following stand a better chance of being selected; One or more ‘A’ Level passes in MOB, Sociology, Law, History and English Literature and/or an IPMZ Higher National Diploma or IDS Diploma in Industrial Relations (UZ).
1.3 BACHELOR OF COMMERCE IN MARKETING (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics at Grade C or better;
Applicants who meet the above requirements but also possess the following, stand a better chance of being
selected: one or more ‘A’ Level passes in MOB, Sociology, Law, History, and English Literature and/or the last part of
IMM, SAIM and IAC.
1.4 MASTERS IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (2 ½ YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- An undergraduate degree in any discipline from this or any other recognized University or Institute of Higher Learning.
- Possession of full CIS, ACCA, ICAZ, CA, IAC or CIMA and a minimum of two commercial ‘A’ Level passes.
- A minimum of two years working experience at middle or senior management level. Proof of such experience must be provided in the form of certified documents from the relevant employer(s) with contact details for verification purposes.
- Entrepreneurial experience
Applicants with a 2.2 and above degree classification will be accorded preference.
- EXECUTIVE DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS LEADERSHIP (18 MONTHS)
Entry requirements:
- 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics at Grade C or better.
- A minimum of 2 years supervisory/managerial experience. Proof of such experience must be provided in the form of certified documents from the relevant employer(s) with contact details for verification purposes.
- Entrepreneurial experience.
- BACHELOR OF APPLIED ACCOUNTANCY (HONOURS) (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language at Grade C or better and Mathematics at Grade B or better.
Applicants who fail to meet the ‘O’ Level Mathematics requirement but have at least two ‘A’ Level passes one of which should be Accounting or candidates studying the final part of CIS, ACCA, CIMA or HND Accounting will be considered.
- MASTERS IN APPLIED ACCOUNTANCY (2 ½ YEARS)
Entry requirements
- Bachelor of Accountancy degree with at least a lower second degree class (2.2) from a recognized University.
- DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN BUSINESS STUDIES

2.0 FACULTY OF ARTS & EDUCATION
2.1 DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION PRIMARY (3 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- A minimum of 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics.
- Previous teaching experience will be an added advantage.
2.2 BACHELOR OF EDUCATION IN EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- A minimum of 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language at Grade C or better.
- Diploma in Education/ a teaching qualification.
2.3 MASTERS DEGREE IN EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT (2 ½ YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- Bachelor of Education Degree in Educational Management or Bachelor of Education in Administration Planning and Policy Studies.
- Holders of other degrees must have passed with an Upper Second class (2.1) at first degree level and should have some recognised experience in management positions.
2.4 BACHELOR OF EDUCATION SECONDARY (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- A minimum of 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language at Grade C or better.
- A secondary teaching qualification/training.
- At least two years teaching experience.
An ‘A’ Level pass in the relevant subjects will be an added advantage.
- Subjects on offer: English, Agriculture, Accounts and MOB.
2.5 BACHELOR OF EDUCATION IN EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT (4 YEARS)
Entry qualifications
- A minimum of 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language at Grade C or better.
- Diploma in Education (Primary or Early Childhood Development)
Teaching experience will be an added advantage
2.6 MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY IN EDUCATION

- A relevant Master’s degree with a minimum degree classification of a pass or equivalent in a relevant educational field.
- BACHELOR OF ARTS SPECIAL HONOURS IN COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA STUDIES (1 YEAR)
Entry requirements:
- A relevant first degree with a minimum degree classification of 2.2
Applicants with relevant post graduate professional experience may be considered.
2.9 BACHELOR OF ARTS, ENGLISH AND COMMUNICATION STUDIES (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- A minimum of 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language at Grade B or better.
Applicants with either two ‘A’ Level passes or a professional certificate or diploma approved by the University will have an added advantage.
- BACHELOR OF ARTS HONOURS IN RELIGIOUS STUDIES AND THEOLOGY (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- A minimum of 5 ‘O’ Level passes or equivalent including English Language.
Applicants with either 2 ‘A’ Level passes or a professional certificate or diploma approved by the University will have an added advantage.
- BACHELOR OF ARTS, MEDIA STUDIES (4 years)
Entry requirements:
A minimum of 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language at Grade C or better.
Applicants with either two “A” Level passes or a professional certificate or diploma approved by the University will have an added advantage.
3.0 FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES
3.1 BACHELOR OF SCIENCE HONOURS IN COUNSELLING (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language at Grade ‘C’ or better.
- Have a recognized professional qualification in a human service profession such as Teaching, Nursing and Social Work.
3.2 BACHELOR OF SCIENCE HONOURS IN PSYCHOLOGY (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- 5 ‘O’ Level passes or equivalent including English Language and Mathematics at Grade ‘C’ or better.
3.3 BACHELOR OF SCIENCE HONOURS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language at Grade ‘C’ or better.
- Experience in Teaching, Social Work or Nursing
- Recognised teaching or nursing qualification.
3.4 DIPLOMA IN DISABILITY STUDIES (2 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language at Grade C or better.
Experience in Human Service employment will be an added advantage.
- BACHELOR OF SCIENCE HONOURS DEGREE IN RECORDS AND ARCHIVES MANAGEMENT (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language at Grade C or better.
A certificate and or Diploma in Records and Archives Management or Library and Information Systems is an added advantage.
3.6 MASTER OF SCIENCE IN SPECIAL EDUCATION (2 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Special Education, Bachelor of Education in Special Education, Bachelor of Arts in Special Education or Equivalent with a minimum of 2.2 degree classification.
- MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN COUNSELLING (2 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- A minimum degree classification of 2.2 or equivalent in
Bachelor of Science in Counselling or a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Applicants must have
attained such professional qualifications or membership deemed equivalent to a first degree.
Additional qualifications and work experience in the relevant discipline is an added advantage.
3.8 MASTER OF SCIENCE IN PEACE, LEADERSHIP AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION (2 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
A first degree in Social Sciences with a minimum degree classification of 2.2 or equivalent from a recognized University.
Experience in Human Service employment will be an added advantage
3.9 BACHELOR OF SCIENCE HONOURS IN DEVELOPMENT STUDIES (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements
- 5 ‘O’ Levels passes including English Language at Grade C or better.
Experience in Human Service employment will be an added advantage
4.0 FACULTY OF SCIENCE
4.1 BACHELOR OF SCIENCE HONOURS IN GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- 5 ‘O’ Level passes including Geography, English Language and Mathematics with a Grade ‘C’ or better;
An ‘A’ Level pass in Geography or other approved subject qualification such as Diploma in Education majoring in Geography
will be an added advantage.
4.2 BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORT (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements
- A minimum of 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and a Science subject at Grade ‘C’ or better.
4.3 BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURE MANAGEMENT (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- Either a minimum of 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language, Mathematics, a Science subject (Integrated Science, General Science or Agriculture) at Grade ‘C’ or better and either a diploma or equivalent in Agriculture or a related field of study from a recognised institution.
Or
- A certificate in Agriculture or its equivalent plus one ‘A’ Level pass in a Science subject, preferably Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Accounts and Management of Business (MOB).
Or
- A Diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Animal Husbandry or Education, or related field of study from a recognised institution.
4.4 BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING SCIENCES (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- Minimum of 5 ‘O’ Level passes at Grade C or better or their equivalent, excluding; Fashion and Fabrics, Woodwork, Metal Work, Technical Graphics and Building.
- English Language and a Science subject are a must.
- Must be registered with the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe, as a general nurse and possess a current practising licence/certificate.
4.5 BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS (4 YEARS)
Entry requirements:
- A minimum of 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics
Or
- A Teachers’ Certificate in Education or a Diploma in Education with Mathematics as a major subject and 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics.
Or
- Substantial evidence of post ‘O’ Level Mathematical/Statistical background such as in technical, insurance or statistical field etc.
A minimum pass at ‘A’ Level in Mathematics will be an added advantage.
Application forms may be obtained at a fee of US$10 for undergraduate programmes and postgraduate programmes and US$30 for research degree programmes.
The application forms should be returned to the Regional Offices by 31 May 2010.
