- Introduction
- These regulations should be read in conjunction with the General Academic Regulations for the undergraduate degrees hereinafter called the General Regulations.
- Learning outcomes/objectives
- To prepare non graduate teachers so that they are able to teach Geography and Environmental Studies to all levels of the secondary school system.
- To equip students with knowledge and practical skills post ‘O’ and ‘A’ level graduates who wish to specialize in Geography and Environmental Studies.
- To empower those who work or would want to work in environment-related fields.
- Duration of Programme
- The minimum duration for the degree programme shall be four years and the maximum shall be eight years.
- Entry Requirements
To be eligible for admission a candidate must:
- Have passed at least five ‘O’ level subjects including Geography, English Language and Mathematics with a Grade C or better.
- Candidates without Mathematics may be admitted to the programme on condition that they enroll and successfully complete the Mathematics Bridging course offered by this university before embarking on Part 1 courses.
- Exemption Qualifications
- A student may, in approved cases, be exempted from certain courses, provided that the student shall have successfully completed approved degree courses elsewhere and that the student shall be required to complete at least three quarters (75%) of the programme courses through Zimbabwe Open University.
- Be exempted in accordance with the General Regulations; or have an equivalent university entry qualification.
- The student must fulfill the conditions 4.c.i and 4.c.2 below to qualify for exemption.
- The syllabus of the institution from which the student completed the course must be equivalent in content to at least 80% to the course being applied for exemption. The student in the given subject/course must have obtained a pass of 60%, 2.2 of C+ which ever is applicable.
- To ascertain the student’s competence in the course the university may grant exemption by requesting that the student take an exemption examination for the course.
- Programme Structure
- Each student will be required to accumulate a minimum of 120 credit points to be considered to have met the requirements of the Bachelor of Science in Geography and Environmental Studies Honours Degree Programme
