  1. Introduction

The proposed BSc Nursing programme is a response to an expressed need for tertiary education by the registered Nurses in Zimbabwe through needs analysis survey carried out in 1998.  In line with the dynamic health and socio-economic environment and complex patient/community needs and challenges, it has become imperative for a practicing nurse to upgrade her/his knowledge, attitudes, skills and competencies.  The proposed programme is therefore intended for qualified nurses and does not provide for acquisition of basic nursing skills.  Therefore, the BSc Honours Nursing Science Degree will lead to an MSc and eventually to a PhD in Nursing Science.
