The Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) in partnership with the country’s leading funeral service provider Nyaradzo Group, held a research conference in the capital recently.
The Conference, a brainchild of ZOU’s Faculty of Science and Technology spearheaded by Professor T.P.Z Mpofu, ran under the theme Sustainable Development, Innovative Ideas for a better Zimbabwe.
The conference was designed in four main topics with each topic having a number of cases studies within Zimbabwe. The four main topics of the conference were Sustainable cities, Communities and global partnerships, Education and sustainable development, Climate change, water and sanitation, Sport, healthy and well-being and Aquatic, terrestrial ecosystems and energy.
A number of case studies were presented among them occupational awareness in small scale and repair industries, the demise of green spaces in Zimbabwe’s urban areas, a case study of Centurion Park in Kadoma, urban fragility, the impact of slum dwellings on the health delivery system, a case study of Caledonia in Harare.
Other case studies that were presented include edutainment in ensuring child development in Mkoba suburb, Gweru, climate change and household water availability in Ward 10, Buhera District, as well as medical waste management systems in Harare Municipal Healthcare Centres.
