ZOU Alumni Association elects new leadership

The Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) Alumni Association met at Jameson Hotel in the capital recently to elect a substantive executive committee that will steer the ship for the next two years.

Harare Chapter’s Chairperson Doctor Lilian Dodzo stood a shoulder above all, shrugging off challenge from five other prospective presidential candidates to land the top post. Doctor Philimon Mahanya of Masvingo Chapter was elected her vice. Mr. Costa Nkala of Matabeleland South was tasked with looking after the Association’s funds as the treasurer while Mrs. Addis Hlomani of Bulawayo Chapter was elected secretary.

All the Regional chairpersons who could not make it into the top four automatically became committee members of the new committee.

Director Centre for Student Management, Professor David Chakuchichi presided over the elections assisted by Harare Regional Campus Acting Regional Director, Mr. C. Mabaso and Mrs.T. Zinyama, Regional Director, Mashonaland East Regional Campus.

The evening before the elections, the Alumni family had met a day before for a get together braai party at the same venue to allow the aspiring candidates to mix and mingle with the electorate.

In her acceptance speech, the new president immediately called for a meeting to try and strategise the way forward as they intend to hit the ground running.
