ZOU’s Inaugural Career Day Sparks Big Dreams for Young Learners

Hundreds of high school students, teachers, and industry professionals gathered for the university’s inaugural Career Day Exhibition, gathered under the rallying cry, “Chart Your Course, Own Your Future.”
What unfolded throughout the day wasn’t just a series of speeches; it was an active bridge connecting classroom learning with real-world career paths.

The morning kicked off with a warm welcome from Pro Vice Chancellor (REID) Professor T. Njaya, who reminded students that their choices today shape the landscape of tomorrow.
Speaking on the practical spirit of Zimbabwe’s Education 5.0 vision, Prof. Njaya highlighted that higher education is no longer just about earning a degree, it is about building solutions.
“We are here to help turn job seekers into creators, innovators, and problem-solvers who can make a real difference in our country,” Prof. Njaya shared during his address.
The stage was then set by Professor T. Njaya, Pro Vice Chancellor, Research Innovation and Enterprise Development, who introduced the Guest of Honour.

Taking the floor to officially open the exhibition, Acting Vice Chancellor Professor E.Z. Nyakatawa urged the young crowd to embrace curiosity and dream big. He encouraged students to use the day to ask tough questions, explore unfamiliar fields, and build confidence in their own abilities.
The morning’s proceedings ran seamlessly under the direction of Mrs. S. Moyo, Director of Ceremonies, who kept the momentum lively and engaging.
Once the formalities concluded, the Hatcliffe grounds transformed into a bustling interactive fair. From mid-morning through the afternoon, students moved from stand to stand, talking directly with industry representatives and career experts.

Representatives from the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, alongside various business and corporate leaders, gave students an honest, behind-the-scenes look at modern industries.
