Teaching and Academic Responsibilities

Dr Guti is a Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Auditing and serves as the Programme Leader for the Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Financial Accounting, Public Sector Accounting, Cost Accounting, Business Law, Forensic Accounting, Internal Auditing, Audit and Assurance, Accounting Information Systems, and Practical Accounting Data Processing.

He supervises undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral research and contributes to curriculum development, programme review, and the development of open and distance learning materials. Among his notable curriculum development achievements are:

  • Development of the Bachelor of Technology (Honours) Degree in Forensic Accounting and Auditing, designed to strengthen professional competencies in forensic investigations, fraud examination, governance, and audit practice.
  • Development of the Microcredential Certificate Programme in Garment Construction, an industry-responsive programme that supports skills development, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning in line with Zimbabwe Open University’s Education 5.0 agenda.

His current research focuses on the role of forensic accounting in promoting transparency, accountability, fraud prevention, and efficiency in Zimbabwe’s public procurement system.

Research and Publications

Dr Guti has published extensively in peer-reviewed national and international journals in the areas of forensic accounting, auditing, public procurement, financial reporting, corporate governance, and internal control systems. His research contributes to advancing knowledge on accountability, fraud prevention, financial governance, and public sector performance.

Professional Experience

Prior to his appointment as a full-time lecturer at Zimbabwe Open University, Dr Guti lectured at Midlands State University, Reformed Church University, and Zimbabwe Open University on a part-time basis. He has extensive experience in teaching, research supervision, examination, curriculum development, and academic quality assurance.

Professional Engagement and Partnerships

Dr Guti coordinates strategic partnerships between Zimbabwe Open University and professional organisations, including:

  • Southern African Accounting Association (SAAA)
  • Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe (ICAZ)
  • WTS Tax Matrix

These collaborations strengthen professional training, taxation education, industry engagement, and student experiential learning.

Leadership, Innovation and Industrialisation

Dr Guti actively advances Zimbabwe Open University’s Education 5.0 agenda through innovation, industrialisation, and community engagement. He:

  • Led the development of the ZOU Garment Manufacturing Project, including the project proposal, operational plan, implementation strategy, and budget.
  • Developed the Microcredential Certificate Programme in Garment Construction to provide industry-oriented skills and support entrepreneurship.
  • Serves as Vice Chairperson of Indolate Manufacturing Enterprises (Private) Limited.
  • Serves as Chairperson of the Business Development and Procurement Committee of Indolate Manufacturing Enterprises (Private) Limited.
  • Played a leading role in establishing the Indolate Manufacturing Academy, promoting practical skills development and innovation through microcredential programmes.
