Master of Commerce in Human Resources Management

Faculty of Commerce and Law at Zimbabwe Open University is designed to develop advanced knowledge and strategic competencies in human resource management. The programme equips professionals with the skills required to effectively manage human capital and align human resource practices with organisational goals in a dynamic business environment.

The curriculum integrates theory and practice in key areas such as strategic human resource management, labour relations, organisational behaviour, leadership, performance management, and change management. It also emphasises research and evidence-based decision making through research methods training and the completion of a supervised dissertation.

Delivered through the flexible open and distance electronic learning model of Zimbabwe Open University, the programme enables working professionals to pursue postgraduate studies while maintaining employment. Graduates are prepared to assume strategic leadership roles and contribute to organisational effectiveness and sustainable development in both the public and private sectors.

  1. To be admitted to the Master of Commerce in Human Resources Management, a candidate must have satisfied the minimum conditions for entry to degree studies at the Zimbabwe Open University as prescribed under the entry requirements in the General Academic Regulations for Masters degrees and must have obtained a relevant degree or its equivalent in the fields of Human Capital Management or any other relevant qualification which the Department may deem appropriate. A candidate must also have a minimum of two years working experience at supervisory or managerial level. As part of the selection process, applicants may be interviewed or given a selection test.
  • The curriculum for the Master of Commerce in Human Capital Management comprises eleven examinable courses and a supervised dissertation.
  • The programme shall be divided into one and half years, each year comprising of two semesters.
  • Each student shall normally take a minimum of five (5) courses per semester.
  • New courses may be added from time to time.
  • To proceed to the next year, a student should have passed nine (9) courses. A student can only be allowed to carry one course into the next year.
  • Each student is required to take a total of eleven (11) courses whose minimum should translate into 247.5 credit points, plus a dissertation, which carries 90 credit points. The total number of credit points required to complete the Master of Commerce in Human Capital Management Programme stands at 337.5
