ZOU Empowers Next Generation of Leaders: 2026 SRC Induction Workshop Kicks Off in Glen City

In a landmark event aimed at fostering excellence and “Empowerment Through Open Learning,” the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) has officially commenced its 2026 Student Representative Council (SRC) Induction Workshop. Running from March 20 to March 22, 2026, the workshop is designed to transform student leaders into visionary representatives equipped to navigate the complexities of modern university governance.

Under the inspiring banner, “Lead boldly, inspire greatly—your journey starts here!”, the programme seeks to enlighten the SRC on university operations, unpack the joys and challenges of leadership, and provide a robust toolkit of essential leadership skills.

The emotional and professional highlight of the preliminaries was the official handover ceremony. The Outgoing Regional SRC President, Ms Joyline Tafadzwe Madombwe delivered a poignant testimonial and handover speech, which was met by an Acceptance Speech from the Incoming Regional SRC President, Ms Margaret Chakurira.  This transition represents a fresh chapter for ZOU, as the new council steps into their roles supported by the guidance of Regional Directors and Student Advisors.

The workshop continues through the weekend, with Day 3 focusing on the Fundamentals of Leadership, Public Speaking, and Conflict Resolution, culminating in a mini strategic planning session. As these leaders depart on Sunday, they carry with them the university’s shared values of Integrity, Teamwork, Accountability, Innovation and Inclusivity. These student leaders will become the ambassadors of the University’s vision “To be the University of choice in open and distance flexible learning.
