ZOU Shines on Day One of ZITF 2026
On Monday, 20 April 2026, the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) didn’t just open a stand at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) 2026, we opened a window into the future of Zimbabwean education and industry.
Perfectly aligning with the national ZITF theme of “Connected Economies, Competitive Industries,” our showcase is driven by our own powerful guiding vision for the week: “Connected Economies, Empowered Minds: Driving Competitive Industries through Open and Distance Flexible Learning (ODFL).” Hall 3, Stand 3G21 was a hive of inspiration, buzzing with a shared passion for driving our nation’s development forward.

From Waste to Wealth: ZOU student innovator Givemore Tizai demonstrates his revolutionary plastic pavers to Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul Henry Gundani, showcasing how ZOU empowers minds to build Competitive Industries and Connected Economies for a sustainable Zimbabwe
The atmosphere was electric, grounded in a deep sense of purpose and academic excellence. We were deeply honored to have our university leadership on the ground, standing shoulder to shoulder with innovators and prospective students. Their presence underscored ZOU’s pivotal role in shaping Zimbabwe’s industrial future:
- Professor Paul Henry Gundani, our Vice Chancellor, anchored the day by reminding us of our core mission. He emphasized that building connected economies begins with Empowered Minds, a vision realized through our motto, “Empowerment Through Open Learning.”
- Professor Tavonga Njaya, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research, Innovation, and Enterprise Development), spearheaded our showcase, guiding visitors through our latest research-driven breakthroughs designed to make local industries globally competitive.
- Mrs. Shingayirayi Moyo, Director of Corporate Communications and Marketing, ensured that the heartbeat of ZOU was felt by every guest, highlighting our unwavering commitment to educational excellence and community impact.
As the proud host city for this prestigious event, Bulawayo brought its warmth signature, Acting Regional Director for Bulawayo Campus, Dr. Lilibeth Hadebe, welcomed a steady stream of visitors with the distinct hospitality that defines the ZOU family.
That local spirit was brought to life by our Brand Ambassador and Bulawayo Campus SRC President, Walter Mathembe Ndlovu. Speaking directly to prospective students, Walter shared a powerful, moving testimonial about the life-changing flexibility of the ZOU experience:
“ZOU doesn’t just offer degrees; it gives the flexibility to lead, to work, and to grow. If you want a future that moves with you, this is where you belong.” — Walter Mathembe Ndlovu
The incredible foot traffic at our stand was a testament to the hunger for homegrown, cutting-edge solutions. Visitors were treated to:
- ⚙️ Tech in Action: Live demonstrations of scientific breakthroughs designed to accelerate industrialization and directly support Competitive Industries.
- 🌱 Sustainable Solutions: Deep dives into our green energy and climate-smart initiatives tailored for Africa’s future.
- 🤝 Personalized Guidance: Expert advice on how our Open, Distance, and Flexible Learning (ODFL) model fits seamlessly into your professional life, proving that flexible education is the true bedrock of Connected Economies.
From curious high school leavers to seasoned industry titans, the consensus was clear: ZOU is bridging the gap between accessible education and industrial excellence.
