ZOU Adopts Bold 2026-2030 Strategic Plan After Landmark Workshop

The Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) has officially adopted its ambitious 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, marking a significant milestone for the institution. The blueprint was formally approved on Friday, November 21, 2025, on the concluding day of a high-level, five-day planning workshop held at The Ancient City Lodge in Masvingo.

The final intensive session was dedicated to formalizing the documents that will guide the university’s direction for the next five years. The workshop culminated in the collective adoption of the five-year strategic blueprint, the associated 2026 Annual Plan, and a new results-driven performance management framework for its top leadership.

The day’s proceedings underscored the university’s commitment to results-driven leadership and accountability. A pivotal session, led by Mrs. B. Maroveke from the Public Service Academy and ZOU’s Dr. P. Mutanho, focused on formalizing the Performance Contracts for the Vice Chancellor and the ZOU Council Chairperson, directly linking executive performance to the achievement of the new strategic objectives.

Following a mid-morning break, the plenary session convened for a critical review and the subsequent official adoption of the following key deliverables:

  • The ZOU Strategic Plan (2026-2030)
  • The 2026 Annual Plan
  • The 2026 Performance Contracts for the Council Chairperson and Vice Chancellor

The formal program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Professor E.Z. Nyakatawa, who acknowledged the contributions of all participants, facilitators, and the organizing secretariat. He further outlined the way forward, emphasizing the collective effort required to translate the strategic plan from a document into tangible outcomes.

The successful conclusion of the five-day workshop (November 17-21) ensures that ZOU enters the 2026 financial year with a clear, actionable, and collectively owned roadmap for growth. With the plans officially endorsed by senior management, the focus now shifts to implementation, embodying the mission of “Empowerment Through Open Learning.”
