Demonstrating the power of strategic institutional alignment, the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) today participated in solidarity at the City of Harare’s 2026 Employees Wellness Funfair at Alex Sports Club. ZOU utilized the high-profile platform to showcase how human capital wellness directly fuels national development and service delivery.
In his welcome remarks, City of Harare Acting Town Clerk, Advocate W. Chiwawa, emphasized that employee wellness is a critical mechanism to ease the socio-economic and health burdens affecting organizations and communities. He highlighted that the city’s wellness initiatives are explicitly integrated with its overarching strategic goals:
“We are aligning our activities to the Master Plan and reinforcing service delivery accountability through universal performance contracts with measurable outcomes.” — Advocate W. Chiwawa, Acting Town Clerk
ZOU deployed a multi-sectoral delegation that advanced both the university’s corporate health and its academic footprint:
- On the Pitch: The Zimbabwe Open University Staff Sports Association (ZOUSSA) fielded competitive teams in soccer and netball, building crucial cross-organizational camaraderie and championing the fair’s social wellness mandate.
- In the Exhibition Pavilion: Key units drove institutional visibility and strategic outreach:
- Corporate Communications and Marketing (CCM): Hardened brand engagement and promoted Open and Distance Flexible Learning (ODFL) pathways.
- Faculty of Science: Exhibited practical academic and scientific innovations.
- Campus Radio: Projected the university’s digital broadcasting reach directly from the venue.
By merging employee health with public-sector collaboration, ZOU and the City of Harare successfully demonstrated that a healthy, motivated workforce is the ultimate foundation for impactful national development.
