ZOU Vice Chancellor to Lead 18.5km Walk to Fund New Epworth ECD Centre: $671,119.40 Budget Unveiled

The Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) is inviting individuals, students, corporate sponsors, and well-wishers to participate in the Vice Chancellor’s Sponsored Walk on Friday, 5 December 2025, a major community engagement and fundraising initiative to support the construction of an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre of Excellence in Epworth.

The “Walk4aPurpose” themed, “Step in the Name of the Underprivileged!”  aims to raise essential funds for the comprehensive construction project at Stand No. 8981, Glenwood Park, Epworth, Ward 3.

This sponsored walk is more than just a physical challenge; it is a profound commitment to our nation’s future,” stated ZOU Vice Chancellor, Professor Paul Henry Gundani. “Every step of this 18.5-kilometer journey is a direct investment into the construction of this new ECD Centre, ensuring that the most vulnerable children in Epworth have access to a quality foundation for learning and growth.”

Construction Budget Details

The university has released detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for the project, setting the total fundraising target at $671,119.40 to cover all planned facilities.

Event Details and Participation

The challenging 18.5-kilometer walk is scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m. at the ZOU Corner House in Harare’s city centre, concluding at the construction site at Stand No. 8981, Glenwood Park, Epworth.

Participation is open to all “fitness fanatics” and supporters, with a registration fee of $20. The fee includes a complimentary T-shirt, cap, snack and water.

The university is encouraging individuals, students, corporate sponsors, and well-wishers to support the construction project by registering or offering donations to help meet the ambitious $671,119.40 target.
