“Zimbabwe Open University Holds Second Sign Language Graduation in Just 3 Months – Bridging Communication Gaps and Promoting Inclusivity”

The Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) recently held its sign language course graduation on 08 March 2024 at the ZOU National Centre in Harare.  The course is a culmination of a similar training done last year. Its popularity indicates its relevance in today’s society.

The Course Facilitator, Prof. Kaputa stated that,

“The significance of the sign language course cannot be understated; the course provides valuable skills to individuals who can then go on to communicate effectively with deaf individuals in their communities. This year’s graduates have gained a valuable skill set that will not only benefit them personally but will also have a positive impact on those they interact with”.

During the graduation ceremony, ZOU’s Pro Vice Chancellor Academic Pro Nyakatawa commended the short course and its facilitators for their dedication to providing quality education. He emphasized the importance of giving back to the community and highlighted the role that sign language plays in promoting inclusivity and understanding among different groups of people.

The sign language course at ZOU continues to be a beacon of hope and inclusivity, providing individuals with the tools they need to bridge communication barriers and promote understanding among all members of society. Congratulations to the graduates of the sign language course, and may their newfound skills lead to meaningful connections and positive change in their communities.
